Frankly Speaking
Before evolving into a marketing executive, R F Timberlake & Company's president began his award-winning media career as a broadcast and print journalist helping the news industry to gravitate towards more in-depth and investigative reporting. ABSOLUTELY AG
For the most part, we still have a great country…if we can keep the Congress from destroying it. One of the main forces behind our country is that less than 2% of the population provides the other 98% of us our food, fiber and shelter through agriculture and agribusiness. With all the manufacturing that has moved to China, Mexico and everywhere else, American farmers continue to provide the staples of our very existence.
And, FRANKLY SPEAKING, it’s an industry we need to protect and promote. All over this nation from March 14th through March 20th, National AgDay will be observed with the actual day being marked for Saturday, March 20th. There are a host of activities scheduled all over the country and especially in Washington. For more info on those go to www.agday.org.
Here in North Carolina, Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler and his able staff have worked to promote AgDay at all of the state’s farmers’ markets in Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Lumberton and at the Sen. Bob Martin Ag Center in Williamston.
At the Senator Bob Martin Agricultural Center in Williamston, 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 17th Commissioner Troxler will present an AgDay proclamation from Governor Perdue and make remarks about the importance of agriculture to the US and North Carolina. An AgDay press conference is scheduled at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in Greensboro, 12:00 Noon, Friday, March 19th
An AgDay news release will be sent to the media in North Carolina talking about AgDay and the importance of agriculture to the US and North Carolina.
At RF Timberlake & Company, we are proud to be associated with all of our clients. But we are particularly proud to celebrate March 14-20 as AgWeek and AgDay with our Ag clients, our Ag friends and you. Agriculture is North Carolina’s largest industry contributing more than $70-billion to the state gross product and providing over 20% of the state’s workforce with jobs.
Food, fiber and shelter come from a farm. Take time during AgWeek to visit a market, a farm or go online to see what agriculture does for you and yours. Thanks to the leaders and staff at the National Agri-Marketing Association and the national AgDay committee for promoting that fact. Take your hats off to Mr. Troxler and staff in North Carolina for their efforts. And FRANKLY SPEAKING, Thank God for those things and for the farmers who provide the sustenance of our lives.
