Frankly Speaking
Before evolving into a marketing executive, R F Timberlake & Company's president began his award-winning media career as a broadcast and print journalist helping the news industry to gravitate towards more in-depth and investigative reporting. Frank Timberlake taught broadcast and advertising, managed numerous political campaigns and operated media outlets with Linda, his wife and business partner. He has never been shy about speaking his mind. Having limited Frank to the subject of marketing, we hope you will enjoy Frankly Speaking, a marcom blog.
THE REAL REASON WE'RE IN ADVERTISING & MEDIA IS...THE FREEDOMS ESTABLISHED 236 YEARS AGO!
How about that? Another holiday. Another cookout, another ballgame, another hike or run, or for some another curl-up-with-book or TV. Tomorrow is another holiday. July Fourth. Independence Day.
Those of us who work in the media, work with the media, shape the messages in the media are usually a more independent type. Some pride themselves on being immune to most things from potential media rate increases to a talent raid on their very shop. You can find a lot of those at the big addresses, Madison Avenue and the like. I know a few that absolutely fit and own Southern addresses.
Me? Nope. I have never achieved that level of success to the point I'm immune. You see, I'm engaged. I'm assertive and at times forceful, but I still care. I care about Andy Griffith's family and friends as all of us will mourn his passing. I care about those North Carolina guys lost in the National Guard plane crash. I care about our military stuck in some bloody or lonesome post this July Fourth. It's unpatriotic to be immune.
Yep, it's hot here right now. Going to be a scorcher tomorrow. But somewhere, sometime during the day, I'm going to sit down and think about all those colonials who pledged their hearts, their fortunes, and their very lives to establish the United States of America.
Visualize that. Think about believing in something that is not yet real to the point that you pledge your everything to its creation. The founding fathers and mothers did it. With the fear of the bayonet, the bullet or the rope, they created this country.
So thinking of their spirit, their beliefs and their unselfish dedication, I now feel really great. I now feel inspired. I feel pride for America and I feel proud that I am not immune.
And when it comes to my life and career which has provided me the freedom to be a marketer and advertising professional, Frankly Speaking, I don't think it's just a celebration of fireworks and picnics. It's a celebration of unwavering patriotism that gives all of us the rights and choices on how to celebrate.
HAPPY INDEPEDENCE DAY!
